Last updated: March 31, 2026
This article provides helpful tips for recording your demo, ensuring you demonstrate your skills effectively and submit a strong application.
Creating your demo
Before you record
Make sure to review the demo video example and the demo lesson itself. You can also attend a free, live Demo Support Session to meet the Air Reading Team and get extra support. The link to sign up for the session can be found here: Demo Support Session sign-up.
Recording your session
When you are ready to record, use Zoom to capture your session. Make sure both you and the lesson slides are clearly visible in the video. You will need to follow the scripts provided in the speaker notes, playing both the teacher and student roles.
Focus on accuracy and pacing
Ensure your phonics sounds are crisp and clear, and avoid adding an extra "/uh/" at the end of sounds. To demonstrate good pacing, keep your entire demo under seven minutes.
Submitting your recording
Once you have finished recording, ensure that both you and the lesson are visible in the recording before you submit your video.
Tips
Be visible: Make sure you are clearly visible in the video, along with the lesson slides.
Follow the script: Adhere to the script provided in the speaker notes, and read both the teacher and student parts.
Keep it clean: Ensure your phonics sounds are crisp and clear, and avoid adding an "/uh/" sound at the end of a word.
Pay attention to pacing: Keep the entire demo under seven minutes.
Get extra help: Attend a free demo support session to get more support.
- Professional attire: Dress in neat, professional attire. Avoid clothing with distracting or inappropriate writing, logos, or images or that could be seen as overly casual such as tank tops or low-cut tops and avoid accessories that could obscure the face such as hats or sunglasses.
- Environment: Conduct your demo from a quiet, well-lit indoor space that is free from background noise, distractions, and other people or pets.
